Clay 2.01 BETA. Clay is a 3d modeler that allows you to create 3d models in an easy GUI environment. A 286+ PC with a mouse and driver installed required. VGA monitor (DON'T USE ANYTHING ELSE) also required. 300+ k of normal memory * The enviroment variable 'CLAY_dir' set to a directory containing 'info.txt' and 'TWIN_fontdir' containing 'spider.fnt'. * The will to create 3d objects. Well, here's what it currently does: * Allows you to create spheres, cones, cubes, squares, circles, rotated forms grids, single points and text. * And then delete them if you don't like it! * Multiple points can be selected using a bounding box which can be stretched moved and rotated in all 3 axis. * Single points can be clicked apon and moved around with ease, allowing for very detailed adjustments. * Objects can be Saved, loaded and appended to and from disk. * Supports BGI '*.chr' stroked vector fonts and displays them in 3d. * Does *not* use bgi but a instead uses a faster, homegrown, graphics system. * Motif style GUI (That's looking through the retrospectoscope, folks, no plagurism was intended, they just sort of act the same!) * Gridlock functions for all your straight edge needs. * Displays objects in prespective 3d, light source shaded. * Allows editing of palette. * Undo changes (but not all, yet) * Total 3d control using a 3d cursor. And here's what it does not but will (and beware, the menu options for these are sometimes there): * Support for DXF, POV scene files and more. * Extrusion (along a variaty of paths), copying and pasting of objects. * Deformation routines. * More advanced rendering, texture mapping, phong. * Output to a range of graphics formats including GIF, PCX and IFF. * Logical operations on objects ie, intersection, union. * Multiple objects with variaing colours and textures, current system uses one single object and you just keep on adding too -this is not as flexible as multiple objects would be. * More graphics drivers with more colours. * Support for different font formats. * An improved 'undo' system. * On line (html compatible) Help. * And anything else you lot care to mention! And here's the know bugs that I WILL sort out b4 release: # Mouse errors, mouse will disappear when overdrawn on some systems and will corrupt the display on some too (nothing physical). I'll fix this by using my own cursor handling routines for display. # Will not undo transformations or deletions and undo may be erronious when the 3d window is displaying solid 3d. # Will definatly crash if your object gets too big (>3000 points) # Occasionaly, a window will not rise to the top of the desktop as it should. # You can have as many message box's and 'about' screens as your machine has memory! oops. # The following options have no effect: 'Manipulator','Deform','Liner','Rotate options','Print','Save window', 'Zoom','Tile','Cascade','Menu'. I just haven't coded them yet! Other anoying things: # When objects get too big, my opuaqe dragging windows don't seem like such a good idea. # You can not yet change the size of the editing area. # The text input box flickers too much. # I have not yet implemented code to ensure that polygons go clockwise - this results in some display anolamies. Right, that's it. Check out the 'how.to' file for the info on, well, 'How.to'. Please send comments and suggestions to: csc023@cent1.lancs.ac.uk I'm Tim Lewis, tara.CNCSND28.ZIP (32K)
