Most of the time, I don't see what the big issue is with replying to an o thread. If someone wants to discuss the same topic, maybe add a question something, why start a new thread when a thread already exists? I don't why it would automatically mean they're an idiot.
I never reply to old posts. How old that is depends on the amount of traffi for that group. Usually it's either no earlier than a month for slow groups or 50 posts for active groups. With the number of groups I follow, there's just not enough time for anthing more.
it's really usually the fault of the bbs softwares.
it should prompt new users to update their msg pointers when they first login.
now there are some people that pop in once a year and reply to stuff from a year ago and dont really make a decent contribution. that's usually the ones that i remind about the necro posting. i dont think i jump down people's throats about it.
my boring fanclub here were delighted that my msg pointers got borked and i replied to one. shows you how sad they are.
