The CoCoShop BBS was a bulletin board system (BBS) that ran in 1987-1988 and was specifically for local users, and was ran on the Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer 2, also known as the "CoCo". The system was initially founded in 1986 by Terry Gray and his brother Denn.
History of the CoCoShop BBS
1987: Terry Gray and his brother Denn, launched the CoCoShop BBS.
Software used: The BBS first ran using modified CoBBS v 1.2 software, and later switched to Terry Gray's Color Connect BBS software.
End of original BBS: The CoCoShop BBS went offline sometime in 1988.
Denn Gray started a new PC-based BBS in 1992 called "the Outwest BBS" it ran until 1997.
In 2015, Denn Gray relaunched a new version of the Outwest BBS running Rob Swindells Synchronet BBS.
How the CoCoShop BBS fit into the CoCo community
The CoCoShop BBS was part of a vibrant subculture of computer enthusiasts who used bulletin board systems in the 1980s.
Hardware: These systems ran on personal computers like the TRS-80 Color Computer 2, and used modems over standard phone lines.
Community: BBSes served as hubs for local users to download files, read and post messages, and play games.
Software: Programmers developed software specifically for these machines, and forums like the Vintage Computer Federation still host discussions on old CoCo BBS software.
... Behind every good computer - is a jumble of wire.
